The New Hamburg Flood Relief Fund Committee has reported that it is receiving generous donations to the fund formed to help victims of the December 28 New Hamburg Flood. Details of how to apply for financial aid are included in another article.
However, the committee has also learned of a number of communications concerning donated or discount priced items that might be useful.
For instance, one Waterloo merchant has offered new gas and electric clothes dryers to flood victims at less than half retail price. Another individual has offered, for free, an oil furnace less than ten years old. Another local resident offered bed and breakfast accommodation to a family in need of a place to live because of the flood.
To express interest in any of these offers, flood victims must respond in writing to the New Hamburg Board of Trade address: New Hamburg Board of Trade, Flood Fund Committee, 121 Huron Street, New Hamburg, Ontario N3A 1K1.
As well, Dean Murray, Sales Manager of Reliance Home Comfort told the Independent that "as the largest HVAC (furnaces/AC) installer in the area we cannot just sit and not do anything when hearing that flood victims... plan on surviving the rest of the winter with space heaters!"
Murray said that Reliance would be very flexible when it comes to the terms of the contracts with the affected residents.
Murray can be reached at Reliance Home Comfort.
