New Hamburg Board of Trade Executive Meeting
Wednesday December 3, 2008
Present: Nigel Gordijk, Tom Hinz, Lynne Mackie, Terry McIntosh, Larry Zehr, Paul Knowles
Regrets: Doug Brenneman, Ed Lemont, David Seyler, Tim Bender, Audrey Cook.
1) The Minutes of the Nov. 26 2008 general meeting were presented. Moved by Lynne, seconded by Tom, that they be accepted. Carried.
2) It was agreed that the treasurer, Lynne Mackie and the president, Paul Knowles, will present a draft budget to the February executive meeting.
3) The recommendation from our general meeting that we join the Waterloo Regional Tourism Marketing Corporation for 2009 was discussed. Moved by Lynne, seconded by Nigel, that we join the WRTMC. Carried.
4) There was informal discussion about appropriate candidates to fill the post of president in 2010.
5) Paul will speak to regional waste disposal officials to coordinate replacement of the plastic liners in the downtown waste containers.
6) There was general discussion of the current status of the bypass proposals. Attendance at the Nov. 27 MOT meeting was good.
7) Susan Cudahy, our November speaker, has indicated she wants to join the Board of Trade, and volunteered to be our representative on the Wilmot Family Resource Centre family violence committee.
8) Volunteers were sought for the Christmas parade.
9) It was noted that our membership renewal invoices should go out immediately.
10) The question of service club and community group signage at entrances to town was raised. It was agreed that, at our general meeting in January, we will seek volunteers to coordinate with other community groups to seek to replace these signs.
11) There was discussion about the possibility of having at least one meeting a year that did not include dinner, but that involved a major key-note speaker, with free admission to BOT members but a charge to the public to attend. This will be explored further, and would be brought to the general membership prior to being approved.
