New Hamburg Board of Trade Executive Meeting
May 13, 2009
Present: Paul Knowles, Ed Lemont, Nigel Gordijk, Tom Hinz, Dave Seyler, Lynne Mackie, Tim Bender, Doug Brenneman, and Audrey Cook.
Regrets: Terry McIntosh and Larry Zehr.
Minutes from previous meeting It was brought to Audrey's attention that there was an error in the spelling of Shirley Koehl's name. This will be corrected on any future minutes.
Motion to approve minutes from previous meeting Dave, second Ed. Carried
Financial report: $12,042 has been received in membership fees. There are now a total of 14 basic members and 45 full members. Total bank balance is $33,82.052.
There is presently no change in the Tourism Committee. Nigel will call L. Cressman to inquire about dates for a meeting. Sylvia Forbes of the Baden Chamber and Mike Kennedy of St. Agatha are also interested.
We have received approval for a summer student for 10 weeks at 30 hours per week. Paul, Dave and Lynne will be the hiring committee. Moved by Tom, second Nigel. Carried.
The Region is ready to pick up the old garbage can liners this Friday morning as long as new liners are there and ready to be inserted. Tim volunteered to arrange and be present.
Cheryl Gordijk will be the contact person for the Duck Race. Tickets are on order and the license is in hand. Bridge bucks, which have an expiry date of September 30, 2009, will again be used for the prize this year. Motion to use bridge bucks for one more year, Tom, second Ed. More volunteers are needed for this event before Canada Day.
The advertising committee has placed one ad in Visitor Magazine. The B of T will have one full page with "Discover New Hamburg" and the web address. There will also be a small ad in the Mennonite Relief Sale program.
The golf tournament is underway. We have one gold and two silver sponsors, however more hole sponsors are needed. Prizes are coming.
New Business: Nigel asked for input from the executive for the website. He proposed a search engine to help browse thru the site. Also membership forms should be available to fill in online and submit with invoicing to follow. At the present time the form must be downloaded and a hard copy submitted along with a cheque. There would be a small charge for this change. Motion to approve Tom, second Dave.
Tim will chair the General membership meeting of May 27, in Paul's absence. Dr. Jake Thiessen of the School of Pharmacy will be our speaker, rescheduled from the January meeting.
