New Hamburg Board of Trade Executive Meeting Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 6:30 p.m., 121 Huron Street

Present: Paul Knowles, Nigel Gordijk, Tom Hinz, Tim Bender, Doug Brenneman, Larry Zehr and Audrey Cook.

Regrets: Terry McIntosh, Ed Lemont, Dave Seyler, and Lynne Mackie

1) Motion to approve minutes from previous meeting Nigel, second Tom Carried

2) No financial report was available

3) Tourism Committee, no report

4) Summer student: Gina Ruttan was our Tourism Officer and Event Co-coordinator. She did the full ten weeks and the executive is well pleased with her work.

5) New Hamburg garden sign on the highway was been taken care of by Gaia²s Gardens this summer and it has looked outstanding. We are grateful for their hard work.

6) Duck Race: Costs were down this year. Full report to follow

7) Canada Day: There has been some talk of moving the festivities to Norm S. Hill Park. A motion to continue Canada Day in Scott Park by Nigel, second Tim.

8) Advertising: Nigel reported that approximately $1,900. has been spent this summer. This includes duck race advertising.

9) Golf Tournament: Event raised approximately $11,000. Full report to follow

10) Food tent at Sidewalk Sale Days. Well staffed and profitable. Report to follow.

11) Nigel passed out copies of an article by Mary Mackeigan published in The Record regarding Living Wage. After discussion by the executive it was decided to raise this issue at our General Membership meeting.

12) The Christmas Parade will be run for 2009 and 2010 by the NHBT. Hopefully this will be passed on to another volunteer group for 2011.

13) Discussion and update on highway 7 & 8. Shakespeare has put up yellow tape showing which parts of the town would disappear with a new highway. The visual effect is outstanding and shows much of the town gone. The NHBT will continue to take part in any discussions.

14) New Hamburg Bucks expire this month, Sept./09. A press release will be issued urging everyone holding these bucks to spend them quickly. Small posters will also be done by Nigel and delivered to retailers.

15) Phone system in the NHBT and Tourism office; We are not able to make long distance calls on this phone and Primus and Bell are both unable to help. Our only solution may be to cancel this number and start again. After discussion Nigel offered to check with Rogers on a phone system along with hi-speed Internet connections.

16) Nomination Committee: This committee consists of: Past President, President, and 1st Vice President. Larry Zehr will sit on the committee as Past President. Motion to approve, Nigel, second Tom. Carried.
