New Hamburg Board of Trade General Membership Meeting

Meeting attended by 59 members and guests.

50/50 winner - Karen Cressman.

Guest speaker for the evening was Lori Lupton, Sales Representative of Pelee Island Winery.  Pelee Island wine was served with dinner and Lori explained the different types of wine that were served and added some history of Pelee Island and the winery itself.  Larry Zehr thanked Lori following dinner.    

President Paul Knowles introduced Sarah Moylan and Erin Autio of Gaia¹s Garden, our featured business for the evening.  They were also thanked once again for the work on the garden around the flagpole and the welcome to New Hamburg sign beside Hwy. 7/8.  

Adoption of previous minutes, March 26, 2008, motion to approve, Joerg  Stieber, second Ed Lemont.  Motion carried. 

Business arising from minutes
All members were reminded and encouraged to pay their membership dues as quickly as possible, and to correct their e-mail address if they are not receiving B of T e-mails.  Nigel will have news on our website at the May meeting. 

The 150th anniversary on September 20, 2008 will have Doors Open in our town with tours of heritage buildings. As well there will be tours of some heritage homes. 

We now have income that exceeds liability for our Bridge Bucks. Prizes for the duck race this year will be paid in Bridge Bucks. 

Please sign up for the golf tournament on June 16.

The Financial Report was given by Lynne. We have $23,795. in the bank with no outstanding invoices. There will be a full spreadsheet at our next meeting. 

New Business
Mary Snider who has been organizing our cruise night for several years has resigned.  Jim Bishop has volunteered to take on this job. Kathryn Ritz has a candidate who will be the Board¹s representative at the Queen of the Fair in September. Would the Board consider continuing the sponsorship of such a person?  Beyond Basics in Phillipsburg volunteered to do the young lady's hair and make-up for the event.  Motion to approve, ????, second Audrey. Carried.

Ambassadors from Benin and the Dominican Republic were in town to-day, Apr. 23, visiting four Board of Trade businesses. The flood damaged the lights along the park pathway. Our Township will be replacing these along with making repairs to the pathway. Garbage cans in the downtown core are badly damaged.  This will be brought to the executive at the next meeting.

Paul Mackie brought up the idea of a new welcome sign to New Hamburg. This will be brought up at our executive meeting in May as well.

Members were reminded of our May meeting, which will be a cocktail reception by MeMe's. Our speaker will be Randy Thomson.

September meeting will feature Allan Sauder, MEDA - micro financing.
