New Hamburg Board of Trade General Membership Meeting

Meeting attended by 40 members.
1) Guest speaker, Allan Sauder of MEDA was introduced by Don Wagler and thanked by Larry Zehr. He was presented with a copy of History of New Hamburg.
2) The 50/50 draw of $72. won by Karen Weber.
3) Approval of minutes from our last general membership meeting May 28, the short executive meeting following same general meeting, executive meeting of June 11, executive meeting July 9, executive meeting Aug. 13 and executive meeting Sept. 17, Larry Zehr, second Nigel Gordijk. Carried.
4) In the absence of our treasurer Paul Knowles gave a brief update on our finances. Presently there is approximately $40,000. in the bank, of which the golf tournament contributed $17,000, Rubber Duck Race, $5,345. and sidewalk sale days hot-dog/sausage tent $1,200.
5) The President then gave thanks to all members who contributed to the above successful events: Golf Tournament committee members Tim Bender, duck race Sausage tent, all helpers but notably to Tom Hinz Jim Bishop, sidewalk sale days 150th Anniversary Committee, most especially to chair Nancy Knowles Hanging plants, Katherine Ritz
6) The membership committee chair, Dave Seyler has prepared a letter with a special offer of membership to new members beginning now and continuing through 2009. Paul asked all members present to take a copy and pass it on to potential members.
7) Garbage containers. Kevin Cressman will be replacing the liners of these containers soon. Jim Bishop asked that the make-up of the new cans should include 3 holes drilled in the bottom to allow any moisture to escape. Also an inquiry from the floor, could we have recycle bins in the downtown area?
8) e: Federal Election; All candidates meeting arranged for Oct. 9 at 7: PM. John Hanson will moderate.
9) MPP L. Pendergast will be speaking at our next General Membership Meeting. She has told us that our objections to the by-pass have resulted in a whole new round of meetings being planned. All members are urged to attend and voice their objections.
10) New Business: Subway, next door to Cook's Pharmacy has no garbage containers and the garbage is out of control in this area. Would the Board of Trade approach Subway ??
Interlocking brick in the fountain area, who is responsible for appearance and repair ??
Terry Broda volunteered to take these concerns to Township Council.
11) inquiry from L. Elkeer, Business after 5 happening in K-W and is very successful. Could the Board of Trade consider this type of meeting?
