New Hamburg Board of Trade General Membership Meeting

Meeting attended by 42 members.

Scheduled guest speaker Leeanna Pendergast MPP was unable to attend. Mayor Wayne Roth, who was kind enough to come on very short notice, was introduced by President Paul and thanked by John Hanson.

Copies of minutes from our previous General Meeting and Executive Meeting along with a financial update were circulated to the members for their perusal during dinner. Minutes were approved by Lynn, second Nigel, Carried. Financial information approved by Dave Seyler, second Jim Bishop. Carried.

During the question period, Mayor Roth assured us that Wilmot Township Council has sent a resolution to MTO saying no to the by-pass. He stated that the Region is prepared to do the same. President Paul further informed the membership that the chief consultant from the firm hired by MTO is recommending there be no changes to the highway. The 7/8 will stay as is; however interchanges could alter, as necessary over time, depending on population change and traffic flow. There will be another meeting regarding this in the near future with New Hamburg Board of Trade and local agriculture representatives.

Downtown garbage container liners are on order.

Mark Murray has arranged for Christmas lights to go up in the downtown area on November 16. He would like volunteers to assist in testing the lights on November 15.

Volunteers are needed for the 2009 Canada Day duck race along with a co-coordinator. Paul urged members to think about giving their time to this event.

New Business:

The Gingerbread Festival is prepared to go ahead independent of Board of Trade assistance.

Hanging plants have been removed from the downtown area and the containers will be returned to Colour Paradise.

Next executive meeting Nov. 12, 6:30 PM at Board of Trade office Next General Meeting Nov. 26.
