Santa confirmed, parade entries wanted
Monday October 19th, 2009
The guest of honour has confirmed that he will attend the 2009 edition of the New Hamburg Santa Claus Parade. Parade chair Nancy Knowles says that Santa will definitely be on hand, and several bands have also signed up, but she added that the parade committee is looking for plenty of local participation, as well.
This year's parade takes place Sunday, December 6, at 6 p.m., in downtown New Hamburg. The organizing committee is inviting all interested groups, organizations, businesses and individuals to enter the parade. Floats, vehicles, bands, and walkers are welcome.
Everyone planning to enter the parade should register on line at the New Hamburg Board of Trade website www.newhamburg.ca/santa. Knowles says, "We are excited to have the Kitchener-Waterloo Regional Police Band participating in the parade this year, along with our own New Hamburg Community Band." She added that one or two others bands are also expected to attend.
"Overall, we're hoping for even more participation this year," she says.
The New Hamburg Santa Claus Parade is a cooperative effort of three local service organizations the Board of Trade, the New Hamburg Lions and the New Hamburg Optimists. All three groups provide volunteers and funding up to $1,000 per group to stage the annual event.
The organizers plan for the parade to form up in Norm Hill Park, and then to follow the traditional route from the corner of Bleams and Peel Streets through the downtown area.
